Today, I was reminded of the purpose of the Well. The church is made of the people, not the building. If we are not practicing and encouraging our church mission: “Found, Filled, and Freed,” we are missing God’s purpose. Pastor Selena talked about how we are “encouraged” by the Word of God; “Equipped” through discipleship; “Empowered” through outreach - and plugged in through Life Groups. Are we plugged into the right power source? I was struck by another thought. Are we loving people like Christ loves us?
The focus discussed was “Be found’. Jesus finds us in all our ways, just where we are. He is with us wherever we go, and He finds us. We don’t find Him. Nothing matters if we aren’t found; where was I when the Lord found me? It seems as though I’ve always been “found,” but there were certain points in my life which directly pushed me further into the direction I needed to go.
Pastor Selena discussed 3 parables. These discussions were interesting. You can be distracted like the sheep and stray. Christ will strive to bring you back. You can be physically where you need to be and do all the right things, but still be missing it, like the woman that misplaced her coin in her house. You can also be like the son who totally rejected everything for the world, and yet his Father rejoiced when he returned. God never gives up on us, regardless of our state. He would not wish any of us be lost, and He presents each of us with a purpose for this life.
Do our hearts break for the lost? Do I see the value that others have? Do I desire to have everyone have the chance for salvation? Those are the questions I was left to ponder, and if my answer is yes I must work harder each day.
