What is my definition of passion? Honestly, my first thought is having a strong emotion about something. Today I was shown this is not the example I should be looking at. Instead we should be talking about the passion of Christ. The last week of His life, Christ made His way to the cross. Passion is the idea in which Christ’s passion was so great for us, He suffered, endured, and gave His life for us. With that in mind, do I live a life of passion? Is there anything I will suffer and endure for? The process that takes us to God’s Kingdom and eternity is long. Do I have the passion to propel me throughout that process?
Pastor Selena talked about how the burden you bare will reveal the calling you will embrace. What is the burden I bare that will not go away? What is weighing me down? The only way we ensure we don’t give in is by using Christ’s life as the example to strive for - not the lives of others.
Hebrews 12:1-2 states, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith …”
In summary, passion is personal. Passion is painful. Passion is purposeful. We aren’t called to run someone else’s race, just our own; we will have to endure hard things along the way. But we don’t lose sight of where we are headed, making out race purposeful. We know what the result will be, just as Christ knew when He went to the cross. The cross wasn’t the end, it was the beginning for all of us.
Passion decides a plan and is persistent; what pains you, burdens you, and creates a desire in you? Find your passion, grow it, and don’t give up!
